Domplatz Innsbruck
2023
Subtle topographical shifts divide the square into fine-grained zones for staying and gathering, enabling soft transitions and defining both everyday and ceremonial uses. New tree plantings – linden, maple, robinia, and chestnut – create green islands aligned with the city fabric’s spatial axes, offering a framework for events as well as quiet retreat.
Access to the cathedral is designed to be barrier-free via minimal steps and ramps discreetly placed along the towers, preserving the integrity of the main entrances. The materiality – natural stone with a refined texture – ties the square into its historic context and ensures a restrained yet enduring character.
